Long-time diva-fierce.com readers will remember the incredible Kim, who was a massive and well-loved part of our team here for many years. Not too long ago, she touched base with me because she had found quantities of past site collages buried in the depths of her computer and we had a little freak out party with all the feels :'), which I am now passing on to you! (Love ya!) Over the next few weeks, I'll be spicing up the current posts with some time-travelling backward looks at where diva-fierce.com has come. Hope you enjoy!
While WWE has been serving up their latest version of a Barbie/Kelly redux, we did our own back in the day, complete with a style synopsis! (Keep up with that, Big Dub!). When there were more of us putting the site together, we were able to feature a Fashionista Of The Month, culminating in a fashion fisticuff (ok, it was just a poll, but still ..:)) in December for the Fashionista Of The Year. We always analyzed both in-ring and street style. Remember this pink and white gear from Wrestlemania? The reversed brassiere cups were super-creative but didn't translate particularly well. Barbie flipped them over immediately afterward into a classic push-up bra and, from then on, slayed us all with gear after gear in gorgeous, sherbet-esque colors and plenty of crystal accents! Random trivia: her black sequin outfit is special to me because her photoshoot in it formed the basis of the first complex collage I made. Dawww :) .The street style line-up highlighted the wide array of fashion choices she graced us with. Everything from glittering evening gowns to simple tee+denim combos can be found in her 'shoots, all of them handled with competence, authority..and plenty of girl-next-door seductiveness :). The Barbie-love is strong with Diva-Fierce! ;)

It seems to me that, if you have a love of fashion, you have a beast inside - a kind of style spirit animal (or animals) whose aura you tap into when you go to your fierce place. So what if, instead of using that spirit as inspiration, you let it out to play? What if you actually became the beast? This Halloween, we're going to explore exactly that through the Divas and KO's and the animal instincts they conjure up for us. We're going to seek the fierce in it's raw form - complete with fur and claws and blazing eyes! - and let it run wild for a night, with us inside instead of the other way around. The true uncharted territory, the real safari, the forest where these creatures roam is a place we can all travel to - if we dare! Come with us and seek the beast within!
If lust for gold and jewels is more your scene, your fierce beast within might take to a Maryse-like dragon. The fire-breathing creatures of legend hoarded gold and precious gems and guarded them fiercely. Their protective nature and fearsome temper made them both revered and reviled. Either way, with their strength and magical powers, they made for superlative - and glamorous! - enemies. Clothe your inner dragon for All Hallows' Eve in the style of Maryse - a zippered bodysuit (leave the collar standing if it has one) with a glittering brassiere or bikini underneath. Alternatively, use a mermaid-scale top to suggest dragon scales. The look can even be done as a coord set with matching shorts. Add fishnet stockings (that scale-like thing again), a wide, jeweled belt and a dragon mask (I love the sophistication of this laser-cut piece!). Finish with OTK boots for a very sensuous, be-glamoured Halloween beast. I didn't immediately think of Brandi's inner fierce beast as reptilian royalty. It was only when I saw the snake on her new gear that the similar qualities became apparent: wise, powerful, creative, a bit dangerous, and more than capable of biding their time until the right opportunity to strike. If, like Brandi, the snake calls to your beastie within, dress it for Halloween in head-to-toe snake print. Go with python shoes if you have pair, or finish with basic black. Feel free to get wild with snake-eye contact lenses, or glue flat-back crystals on a pair of sunglasses in the vesica piscis (pointed oval) shape. Add a smattering of low, curved horns for a little extra ferociousness and you're ready to slither your sultry way through any Halloween party.
Maria’s inner beast? Oh that creature’s a sexy thang for sure! And what mythological beats was sexier than the sultry, come-hither sirens who lounged on sharp rocks at beach-side and lured sailors into wreckage with their songs? I’m sure many a man (and likely a number of women ;)) have been lured into dangerous territory by Maria. If you inner beast shares that talent for temptation, dress her up for Halloween in a ruffled skirt (or use a dark neutral skirt or pair of pants and add a sparkling net hip shawl), paired with a glittering top. Try a sequin bikini, bra top or cami, or go for something with feathers (the sirens of legend were part bird). You could also bring the winged concept in with a feathered headband or earrings. Alternatively, try a seashell crown and/or pendant. Stay with cool shades: blue-greens, blues and purples, accented with touches of sandy beige or taupe. Finish the look with (what else?) flip flops :)
Soooo woops... I guess I should have counted my collages a bit better because I missed one of the most important ones for this season: VELVET! (I know, you're thinking "Velvet Sky!"...and I am so with you :). Velvet Sky would indeed be an awesome trend. However, the one ruling Planet Fashion atm is velvet, the fabric. It's plush, it's luxurious, it's been away for awhile and now, it's having a moment. And that means, you either need to excavate the velvet you already have bured in your wardrobe, or you need to get you some, stat! :) Velvet is dressy by nature, so it can be used for formal events (do a Lana-like bustier atop a silk maxi skirt for a holiday party or winter wedding), or to dress down more casual pieces (consider a velvet blazer paired with distressed denim for a luxe-meets-laidback look). If you're looking to invest in velvet, camis, bustiers and other tops will be the easiest and most cost effective way to add some to your look. Chokers are another budget-friendly and totally on-trend option. If you're looking to invest a bit in a piece you'll have for awhile, go the blazer route. or be daring and try velvet shoes!
This is going to be one FUUUUUN fall, fashionistas! There are a bunch of amazing themes and key pieces that are making waves in fashion this season. The overall vibe is laidback, but thoroughly stylish, with a little kick of attitude: romantic, but with a dark edge. Easygoing luxury is encouraged. Color tones are warm and restorative: jewel tones both punctuating and used as neutrals. Chunky heels are on point, as are OTK’s. Pointy toes and single soles are sticking around, but platforms are popping out of hiding too, as are other toe shapes, as designers experimented with round and square. And that’s just the beginning! Ready for more?
We’ve followed Maria’s example and taken a look at how to Parisian-ize your wardrobe. But what would WWE’s Queen of all things French have to say? Weren’t you wondering about Maryse’s take on all this Francophile styling? Yep, so were we! To that end, we went collecting. And now, we present to you Maryse’s most Parisian fashion moments!
It’s not often that we see the Sexiest of the Sexy break out her pearls, but when she does, she knows how to make a statement! In this incredible ‘shoot, she styled them with a lace bustier and neutral lace pencil skirt. Being the glamorous gal she is, she topped it all with a luxe fur coat. I’d hedge a bet that you might see a Parisian girl toughen up all that lace by topping the look with a leather biker jacket. And I’d further bet that Maryse would be right on board with that! On a different day, she might even have topped this look with the military-inspired jacket we see in her next look, which is all about casual style that still has that je ne se quoi. This is one of my all-time favorite ‘shoots of hers, set in Strasbourg and capturing Maryse’s journey around the city. She perfectly demonstrated one of my tenets of fashion: dress (stylishly) for the occasion. As glamorous as she can often be, Maryse knew just how to keep it practical for exploring, while staying completely fabulous. She paired blue denim with a simple tee and this incroyable hardware-heavy statement jacket. My favorite part of the look? Her broken-in, chocolate leather flat boots! (Wait…Maryse wears flats?! :) Oh yes…and looks fantastic doing it.). This outfit it a 101 course in keeping “laidback” seriously chic! |
