Cathy took on the floral trend with this beautiful fit-and-flare dress. The colors in the print are unusual - coral, peach and teal on a burgundy background - but the vibrant mix looks fantastic on her. I love the way the wide central band defines her waist. White flat sandals, which echo the white flowers in the print - make this look more casual, perfect for a day of summer shopping or picnicking. She takes even more risk with color in her next outfit, pairing a lemon yellow flared skirt with a aqua cropped top. This pairing may feel way off the diving board, but I adore this combination and use it quite often. The glowing yellow and cool aqua complement each other wonderfully. Cathy ties it all together with her necklace, a colorful collar of mixed stones ranging from deep mint to coral, cobalt and mango. None of the necklace shades precisely matches her outfit, but there's so many of them, it doesn't matter; it fools the eye and makes the outfit feel immediately cohesive. I am always thrilled to see outfits like this, that are bold and try unusual things. It's so much fun to see and review, especially because I get to yabber about fashion concepts I don't ordinarily get to :) Thanks, Cathy! PS I love her side-pinned hair! Like her outfit, it's a different and fresh take and the 90's/vintage vibe is fab.
Even though Emmalina is a thing of the past, Emma's ability to pick out and model a killer bikini did not fade into the sunset with it. This floral print piece in white, plum and rose is a standout, one of the prettiest bikini prints I've seen in awhile. The front string tie is a fun detail. Summer rocked a bikini at this same event, albeit a much simpler monochrome piece in dusty olive. Hers gets a boost from the strappy string details that make the body a canvas. She added oversize sunnies for a touch more mystique. Eva was also busy repping her new NEM bikini offerings. She showed off a crochet-edged beige string two-piece that was just the right combination of minimalism and detail. Like Summer, she added sunnies ftw.

Renee rocked her look and our world with this studded leather overall dress (the Overall Of It from Nasty Gal). Doesn't it remind you of the Jameson Leather piece Foxy wore for WM Axxess this year?) She contrasted the smooth sheen of the leather with a striped tee layered underneath. The stripes add a chic vibe to the fierceness of the dress that I'm all in for! Renee echoed the silver flash of the studs with a metal choker for a bit more attitude. We don't get to see here shoes, but this outfit is just made for a pair of peeptoe booties in my book :). She went for a more laidback rendition of the overall look with this denim variation, which she layered over a black top. This is the kind of look that could easily look bland, so I was thrilled to see the bright pink lip she styled it with! Along with her fringe bangs, they bring the right shot of attitude and intention to this casual look. Next up was a super-fun exploration of power stripes. The width of this pattern and the color scheme gives this blazer a forceful presence. Renee played up the toughness by pairing it with leather skinny pants, but threw in her usual dose of casual cool by adding a simple cami below. As with the previous outfit, her hair style adds volumes to this look: her high donut bun adds polish, while her wispy bangs add a hint of playfullness. She was back to the one-pieces with this sleeveless jumpsuit. The cutout detail is interesting and modern, but the standout feature is the glorious shade of iris blue-purple - so stunning! Her center-parted bangs give this look a slight 60's kick, which is fun. Add a nude heel or a cute pair of sneakers for a sporty vibe to this and you're good to go :). Her last look continued the vintage theme, but with more of a boho kick: she paired flared jeans with a sleeveless emoticon tee. It's a simple enough look, but her statement messenger bag and oversized heart-shaped sunnies give it the perfect amount of consequence to exude casual cool.
If you took one look at Summer's impeccably cool ankle booties and went head-over-heels, I can totally join your tumble. These urban-cowboy-esque heeled lovelies are Jeffrey Campbell's Cromwell, a classic Western-themed ankle bootie that gets a boost of unfussy modernity from its deep side slits. If that wasn't enough fun, there's a hint of flash from the metallic accents at the toe and heel. The gritty fierceness is married with the practicality of a low block heel, turning them into a pair that's wearable from festival season through fall pumpkin fetes and even on into winter. They're offered in plain black leather, as well as black or blush suede, python, taupe velvet or taupe suede (all at Nordstrom) (black & taupe suede also at Shopbop).
Yes, boot game is totally allowed in warm weather. Summer gave us a perfect example in this snap from Instagram, which demo'd look stuffed with the most enviable casual cool. The key to the style is using sufficiently relaxed pieces, but pairing them in a way that's un-boring. Summer accomplished that with a muscle tee splashed with marigold at the shoulders. That bright color pop gave this look a huge boost. Reach for your fave bright cropped (or knotted to cropped-length) tee as a starting point.(Hint: make a standard-sleeve tee into a cap-sleeve silhouette y rolling the sleeves. Don't fuss over flat, even perfection - crinkled is good!) Alternatively, go for a cute cami with stripes or a fun detail like tie-shoulders (or both). Summer's look has a pared-down urban girl vibe so leave the lace, ruffles and peplum styles at home for this one. Do consider a classic ribbed tank, though! The easy grit of this pairing - especially with boots! - lends itself perfectly to that option. Pair with shorts - cutoff (or rolled) denim is top of the list. Any wash will work. Cargo shorts are a 90's-referencing alternative. Or, ramp up the city vibe with a leather pair. Add flat or low-heeled ankle booties of almost any iteration. Suede works, leather works, hardware works, any neutral color works. Go light to nil on the baubletry. To keep the look out of "this is what I had on last night and I don't care" territory, make sure to add a bit of polish with your hairstyle - a messy bun or cute high pony does the trick. The last crucial accessory? Oversized sunnies! They add just the right dose of casual glam to the chilled-out cool of this styling. I hope this inspires you to show off your boot game a bit this summer :) Happy fashioning, loves!
Soooooo believe it or not, this is the last of the Catch-ups. I'm sort of in shock myself..kinda felt like I'd never get through it all :).
Nikki kicks off the ending with a bright royal blue iteration of the Self Portrait lace dress we've previously seen her wear in white. I like the piece just as much in this shade! The gorgeous lace is feminine and lighthearted, perfect as a sundress when styled with neutral wedge sandals, as Nikki as here, or as a fancier piece when done with pointy pumps or more formal sandals, as we've seen her do in the past. Next up is a super-cute pairing that infuses the best of now with some trademark Nikki stylings. She paired a sleeveless lace peplum blouse with a modern-vintage aesthetic with black skinny jeans. The black ribbon at her neck makes a fun way to connect her top and pants. While Nikki has used it like a necklace, with a loose knot, it could also be done in a bow to up the throwback vibe. Red pointy pumps add that dash of Nikki-esque spice and really pop the look. I wouldn't have minded seeing her carry that color upward with a bright lip. This polka dotted mermaid midi skirt gave me immediate #tbt vibes to the Bella's late 2013 50's pin-up era withere they were all about the high waists, polka dots and hair scarf bows. Nikki keeps the look a little more polished here, pairing the skirt with a simple black scoopneck top and a slim gold choker. A burgundy and gold chain-strap purse adds a bit of modern attitude and brings in her trademark shot of red. She continues her black-and-white streak by pairing this minimalist ruffled sheath with simple black ankle-strap heels and a black tote for Bridal Fashion Week. I love the pristine, edited feeling of this look - it acts as a palate-cleanser after all the lace, pleats and other embellishments we've seen lately. Sometimes, the plainest ensemble has the strongest impact! Her trusty Prada boots are back in evidence with yet another look, this time a super-chill long-sleeved sheath dress from Veronica Beard. The bold presence of the ankle boots injects some attitude into this relaxed look. I'm still loving the chain handle on her bag, although I would have loved if she's gone for a chocolate, nude or mixed-browns hued one to tie in with her shoes. OMG remember these? I'm so behind on Masterposts, I probably need to do another round of them by now. Le grand sigh. Back during her Emmalina tease, Emma was slaying us with scalding fashion. Among that panoply was this tie-dye dress in lovely shades of aqua, navy and golden yellow. You can probably guess which part of this look got my attention. The shoes!! lol Anything yellow is certain to catch my eye...and likely my love as well. While I'm not a huge fan of the scallop hem on the side of the dress, any look that uses this much color competently is a definite win to me. The pairing is sassy, joyous and super fun! There's some spring style inspiration in these for sure! Aqua-blue shades were on Emma's radar for sure - she showed off this strappy bikini in front of a surfboard earlier this spring. I love the delicate quality of this design - it's not often you get a bikini that will stay in place but also looks feminine and this one pulls that off. Her next one is a simple but sexy strappy iteration in a soft terra cotta color. The shade is quite unusual and it suits the earth-tone rocky backdrop of the shot perfectly. I wish Emma had explored the Emmalina character further - it really allowed her to show off a completely different side of herself, which was super fun to see. Maybe she'll go back and forth between the two periodically now - kind of like a Gollum-Smeagol thing...but without the whole live-fish-eating, ring-obsessed, murderous psychosis. We've seen Emma do prints quite often, but this bold floral is quite a change from her previous bright, graphic or tropical choices. Those were playful and lighthearted. This one is moodier and more sophisticated. The cutout fronts adds a coquettish touch and, although I could have done without the double side slits at the front, I really love how well Emma pulls this off. Sometimes more mature looks and come off awkward for people who are very comfortable with more whimsical styling, but Emma handles both with competence. Her next bikini is similar to the terra-cotta-on-the-rocks piece, but with a brighter, cleaner color palette and a bold, diamond print. I adore the melon-and-coral combination - they're exactly the kind of shades I think of (and reach for ;)) as quintessentially summer! And this uncomplicated print is tons of fun!
We got a very mixed bag of snaps from Axxess Day 3 - everything from full body shots to partial torsos. The latter naturally make it somewhat difficult to review per se, but being the fashion lover I am, I try to at least make a comment or two :).
Charlotte went for a classic combination of red and black, pairing a halter cropped top with stunning red wide-leg pants. She gets huge props for trying out the wide leg style and I really love how she makes it work. The key to the trend is defining the waist one way or another (which allows the pants to work their long, leggy magic). Charlotte's choice of the crop top accomplishes this perfectly. This shade of red is glorious - intense and attention getting. By doing it as the larger, bolder piece in her look , Charlotte gave it extra significance and made the whole outfit stand out. Leave it to Alicia to slay the life out of an Axxess outift! I LOVE this look - her burgundy suede overall dress (yes - a dress with an overall top. This one is the Jameson Leather Overall Dress x For Love & Lemons via Mulaner. A few also available in black at lexandlynne.com) is super fun in and of itself, but with studs? Fierce, baby! So fierce! But Her Foxiness doesn't stop there. She adds trendiness to uniqueness and fierceness by layering an off-shoulder tank underneath it for a completely incredible casual look. This is how you make laidback be totally NOT boring! A short collar pendant necklace and a low bun complete this amazing look. Nia went for a black monochrome outfit, which is solid throughout. She does an excellent job mixing textures for visual interest by topping a knit tee and black leggings with a leather-panelled knit waterfall jacket. I haven't seen enough of her fashion choices to know if all black is something she gravitates to often. If that's her preference and what she enjoys, that rocks! But I do get sad when I think that a number of curvier ladies stay with black because they've been told 18 million times over that it's slimming. The way an outfit looks on the body is much more about cut, fabric and visual geometry than color. So, curvy chicks, if you love color , this is my personal plea to you: don't shy away from it! Have some fun with your palette :) Summer kept things light with a blush tank (or tank dress) with tonal striping. A pretty ivory lace choker accented the look. One thing that I love very much about this piece is that it definitely seems to not be a coord set :). Also, the softness of the combination is gorgeous for hot weather -light neutrals always have a dewy fresh quality. |
