Blue jeans and a little white top Is about as girl-next-door classic as you can get…unless, of course those jeans are all-over sequined. Then, it’s GLAM! Barbie rocked the sheez out of this very pairing on her Instagram, looking thoroughly hot and totally like an 80’s baby in these sequined Zenith jeans from Fashion Nova. I love the way a super-fun, over-the-top piece like these can put a whole new spin on an iconic combination! She gave the look a casual, sporty finish by completing it with white sneakers. From there, she goes to another take on an athleisure look: a coord set of a cropped top and track pants, again by Fashion Nova. I love the way the pinstripes give this a FASHION-gone-sporty vibe, rather than feeling like a gym look that just got dressed up a little. It’s casual, but also super-sophisticated and I’m so here for it! Her star-printed backpack ups the trendy vibe and echoes the set’s white stripes. Her strong eye and nude lip keep the look chic, but laidback. I’m thrilled that she didn’t try to power it up too much with a bright red lip. We don’t get to see her shoes (*sniffles*), but I’m betting on white sneakers or white pumps ;). Barbie was really loving Fashion Nova this winter – she turned to the company again for this stunning eggplant satin romper. The color had my attention from ‘hello’ and the off-the-shoulder neckline and romantic puffed sleeves kept it! Everything about this piece makes a statement! The satin also makes it quite formal, so I liked seeing Barbie tone it down with her shoe choice. She went for a clear sandal, which is an upcoming trend for this summer. I’m still not quite sold on the look, but I’d have loved a nude heel in the same silhouette. I’m also crushing on her side-swept hairstyle here – it’s so sensual and gorgeous on her! Barbie was slaying for her birthday celebration in a red latex set from Meshki Boutique. This outfit, like her previous one, makes a fashion focal point all on its own, with the deep, square neckline, dangerously sexy fabric and outrageously high side slit. I could have dealt with a slightly less dramatic slit, but I can roll with this one; I’ve seen Barbie push the trend into much more questionable territory. Then again, with her body, she can make nearly anything work. So there is that to consider :). Just as with the romper, Barbie wisely kept her accessories simple: clear sandals (again, I’d have loved nude as well) and a gold bag. I applaud her styling choices – they accent the look without getting in the way of the main statement.
I’ve already raved over Bayley’s tweak of her gear – the addition of fringe and reduction of patterns – in my review of her Royal Rumble look. I’m on board just as hard for this earlier version. I love the more edited execution, the movement of the fringe (and also how insanely unique it is!!), and the incredible aqua and pale apricot color story – again, a super unusual combo and a gorgeous one to boot! Brava, Bay – this gear is AHHHHHmazing! Also fabulous, incidentally on trend and mad fun :) I’m so in for this!

I’m practically still living on the high from this year’s Royal Rumble. After the thrill of the incredible performances from the current crop of girls, there were the chills and shivers of all the returns: the Bellas! Beth! And the DoD reunion! The feeeeeeeels! Barbie! I caught my breath when Michelle ran in – I never thought I would see her wrestle again! I was back to the early days of my fandom in a heartbeat. It was 2010 and everything was flawless and filled with real talk and FIERCENESS. Omg. And Trish! And Lita slaying! And when Vickie “excuse me”d…I lost it. Like, gone. Brb. Annnddd. The Big Dub did not disappoint with this one. It took me some time to chill a smidge and savor it all. And then, there was the plethora if ring gear to examine and rave over :)…which I shall now do, in print. Are you ready to rrrrrrrruuuuuumble?
The Glamazon looked as if she last stepped out of a ring just yesterday in this black and white rendition of her trademark gear. While Beth went through a few variations of her gear (including a skirted version, several different side cutouts and an iteration or two with lace-up pants), this is the style that seems synonymous with her. I love this perfect recreation, right down to her trademark headpiece and the in-flight phoenix. The color scheme accents the cool, powerful an practical nature of the design. It has no intention of being sexy…and that’s sexy as h**l! You would be well within the boundary of smart logic to cower in fear at the entrance of the Glamazon…especially when it became apparent that her skill set was 100% intact… Unless, of course, you are Natalya :). The Divas of Destruction sharing a hug in the center of the ring was a standout of the many special moments of this inaugural Rumble. Nattie wore a an iteration of the one-piece that has become her signature look. This one combined the striping and be-crystalled “shield” front we’ve seen previously with additional pink piping and crystals (of course ;)). Set on a latex backdrop, the look is sleek, but glamorous and , like Beth’s gear, practical, despite its fierceness and opulence. While I can’t help but have favorites among the many variations of this gear, there’s no doubt that this series represents Nattie at her absolute ring-fashion best, melding haute couture with performance wear in an unforgettable way. Bayley really didn’t have to do much to get me to adore her gear beside wear it in yellow :) (#FavoriteColorSyndrome). That said, I’m in for her new addition of fringe on her pants. Surprising, no? True, it’s a bit crazy from a fashion standpoint, but the movement is creates is super cool and after the multitude of patterns and graphics on her previous looks, this feels cleaner and lets me appreciate the details and all that free-spirited color – which comes off effervescent and exciting now that it has chance to shine. I love the sprinkling of stars over her top and boots –it’s perfect pattern for her, on trend but also fitting for her taste and style. All of this in combination easily makes this set my current favorite of all her gear outfits! Barbie kicked off November in this simple, classic pairing of a long-sleeved, heathered tee and denim shorts. The look has a completely all-American girl vibe to it…until you get to the footwear :). Barbie’s choice of burgundy velvet OTK boots not only adds a massive shot of fierce, it also give the fall flavor to an otherwise almost summer-y outfit. A burgundy lip shade carries the color upward in a pleasing way.
Alexa got a Maryse Makeover during Total Divas which gave me mixed feels. I loved the youthful vibe of the embroidered collar on the dress Maryse picked but, even with that, the piece has a maturity and sophistication which feel a little out of place on Blissy just yet. Ditto the gorgeous lace coat. The studded bag I think she could probably work with though ;). Even though the look isn’t ultimately one I can see Alexa keeping right now, I really enjoyed seeing her step out of her comfort zone. Sometimes the best way to figure out who you are (in fashion and otherwise) is to figure out who you’re not. Or, who you’re not right now – sometimes you find something you can come back to another point and realize that you’ve grown into it. The experience always has a lesson, which is why taking chances and trying things is important. It keeps you from getting stuck in a box and/or getting bored. Brie gave us a sample of her trademark boho style on the show, as well. She paired a flowy peasant blouse in antique rose with medium wash blue jeans. This is a rendition of the fancy-meets-chill blouse and denim look that fashion has been loving the last few seasons. It often gets served with distressed denim so I really love seeing Brie’s hole-less bottoms! The look works flawlessly, with her braided hairband cementing the bohemian vibe and acting as the exclamation point of the styling. Are you ready for more? There are always more shoes I’d love to see the ladies get to try :). So, here goes…
In addition to her insanely cool, in-ring glow, Naomi has a fantastic sense of fancy style. These Monili-beaded-strap Velvet sandals from Bruno Cuccinelli would fit in perfectly with her sophisticated-with-a-twist sensibilities. They have a wonderful play on materials, with a textural combination of glimmering micro-beads and opulent velvet that makes them quite formal. However, that’s tempered by the mountaineering-gear vibe of the strap that supports the beads, giving a very athletic and functional-looking spin to the formality of these heels. These are just made to be the crave-worthy finish to an LBD or minimalist gown. Equally in her wheelhouse, but on the less formal side are these celestial-feeling peeptoe booties from Alexandre Birman (the Ziggy). They get an extra touch of modernity from the tie at the top which creates a paper-bag tie look at the ankle I can totally see Naynay fiercing up acid-wash skinny jeans and a tee with these! Like Maryse, Natalya’s shoe game already sends us into ecstasies! But that doesn’t mean we can’t come up for a few fun things for her to try ;). The classic foundation of her style lends itself to pairings we don’t often see from Divas, like these gingham flats (the Side Bow Mule from No. 21). I love this brand’s modern-classic aesthetic in general and the lighthearted feminine chic of these flats in particular. The jewels at the heel add a delightful dose of extra dimension – don’t you just adore them? I can see these with a floaty summer dress or a sleek pencil skirt. In a more daring genre are these Maureen Double Band mules from Malone Souliers. Nattie is always a fan of pink and this sensual coral-tinged shade would look amazing on her! The moiré (pron: “mwah-ray”) fabric gives them a luxurious vibe that’s contrasted by the sleek silver leather bands. These heels would be provide a fabulous pop to almost any of the clean, classic looks that are Nattie’s trademark. Lastly, I couldn’t resist including a more traditional (but hardly sedate) selection – these pointed Mira Pearl pumps from Nicholas Kirkwood feature glittering textural fabric and a single pearl hung from the sole. About the only thing I can see them not working with is Natalya’s ring gear. Then again, maybe…:). The Divas were on full slayage mode, as usual, for the promo photoshoot for the newest season of Total Divas! This year’s theme was a modern mix of black and white, with touches of silver. Alexa kicked things off in a sporty coord set that paired a zip-front vest with slashed high waist leggings (from Ultracor, id by fashionofthedivas.tumblr.com). The look got kicked into high gear with the addition of peeptoe ankle booties (though I confess I wouldn’t have minded seeing a really hot pair of sneakers here, either [ok, who are you, Writer Person and what have you done with Brie?]).Touches of gold via a wide bangle and hoop earrings serve to further elevate the styling. In addition to the streamlined, sexy athleticism it projects, this look is especially fun because it’s outside the chill, punk-leaning aesthetic we tend to see Blissy reach for. I love seeing experimentation and she totally rocks this look! Don’t you just adore her confident smirk? :)
Yes, I am reviewing October fashion. I know, I know.
It was only a matter of time until Barbie explored the latex trend! She dabbled in the fabric with this LBD from House of CB for an October event. The simplicity of this dress is a perfect choice – we don’t see the kind of envelope-pushing cuts Barbie often reaches for. Here, the sensuality all comes from the fabric and, with a daring material like this, it’s exactly the right way to go. Black ankle strap heels complete the look, along with an eye-catching make-up choice: a super-pale nude lip that nearly matches Barbie’s skin tone. While it makes me stop and take notice, I think I would have preferred something a touch warmer – a dusty cinnabar or quartz. Next up is a flowing romper from Planet Blue. The color pairing of camel and black and the looser cut of this piece combine to give it a much more chic and sophisticated feel than your standard version. Barbie adds a shot of fierce with her suede OTK boots and oversized sunnies and look comes together with the kind of unstudied, tantalizing style that is her trademark. From there, she swung into the relaxed modernity of a denim on denim pairing, utilizing J Brand denim. A House of CB bodysuit in olive provided the underlayer, while suede peeptoe OTKs from Pretty Little Thing gave the look some edge. I like the mix of soft neutrals in this outfit. I’d love an embellished bag here to tie everything together! While it’s not really an “outfit” per se, I couldn’t resist sharing this snap from Barbie which featured this show-stopping statement necklace from For The Stars Fashion House, a custom creator of one-of-a-kind designs. With layers of gold chains and crystals, this piece is ahhhhMAYzing! Barbie got the full effect out of it by pairing it with nude bikini bottoms – doesn’t she look like a divine siren, rising up out of the sea?! -, but I’d be interested to see it tried atop a minimalist LBD. She got her grunge on with this combo of a cropped boxy sweatshirt and white denim. I’m not generally a fan of shorts cut to reveal the pockets, as it tends to look messy, but here, it fits the bored-punk theme so well that I’m breaking my rule :). Barbie completed the look with a black and white plaid shirt knotted at her waist on true 90’s style. I love the way it pulls the whole look together! Question of the moment: can Brie review three months of fashion before the end of the year? Welp…I have zero clues. But I’m gonna try :).
Barbie’s late September gem of a look is a New Year’s outfit waiting to happen. I was wild over this the instant I saw it: denim button down, sequin pencil skirt – what’s not to love? Barbie completed the look with leg-lengthening nude pumps and kept her make-up soft as well, letting the shine from her skirt be the main focus. I love how this outfit is both relaxed and party-worthy at the same time! PS I would also happily do this look with a flannel buttondown ;) Brandi showed off this snap on her Instagram, which seems to be from a photoshoot with Cody and herself. That dress tho! Lace, appliqué, sheer – it’s a total confection of gorgeousness wrapped up in an LBD. Brandi tones it down by keeping her hair long and loose and accenting it simply, with nude pumps, making the overall ensemble come off incredibly chic. I love this girl’s style! Have I mentioned that? (Only perpetually, yes?). Lana updated her previous tv look (this vest+pencil skirt combo which reminded me of her early Ravishing Russian style) with red lapels. She echoed the shade in her lips and lovely ankle strap heels. I love her in red – it’s a stunning color for her, so I like this iteration very much. I do hope she’s going to do more than change lapel colors for this era, though, ‘cuz that could get old in a hurry. Lana has a wonderful sense of style, so I’m placing my bets on seeing her change up a bit more soon. Charlotte often reaches for black monochrome looks for her tv appearances, and she does it again here, pairing a black cropped top with leather leggings and suede knee boots. The silhouette created by this pairing is a little challenging for her body type, which is quite straight. While the leggings help to define her waist, the top kind of cancels that out and makes her look more blocky. A looser and/or blousonne-style top would work better for these super-skinny bottoms. Alternatively, shortening the height of the crop just slightly, so it hit at the narrowest part of her body could work too. We saw Alexa go for a similar look, using nearly all black, with leather leggings on the bottom. Blissy paired them with a simple, longer-length tank and topped the ensemble with a printed, gray hooded vest. I love the look of the shorter vest layered over the longer tank, as well as the sporty vibe it brings to the look. I’m super glad she added the hardware-embellished ankle booties! They add that totally needed dose of jazz to the look. |
